Longhorns pitcher Aiden Moffett enters the transfer portal

While Longhorns baseball has been busy retooling its roster this offseason, it has also lost some pieces from last year. That now includes RHP Aiden Moffett, who entered the transfer portal earlier this week. After one year with Texas, he will look to carve out a bigger role at his next stop.

During the 2025 campaign, Moffett only made six appearances. In four innings, the Taylorsville High School product posted an impressive  2.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP while striking out seven batters. Even though those numbers would make any coach happy, Moffett did struggle with control, walking four batters and hitting two more.

As Moffett looks for a new opportunity, he is not in unfamiliar territory. He started his college career with LSU and was a Tiger for two years before transferring to Texas. The Mississippi native saw the most action during his sophomore campaign, where he posted a 5.60 ERA in 16 appearances. Moffett showed that he could miss bats with 21 strikeouts in 17.2 innings.

Although Moffett has struggled with consistency, he was a highly regarded player coming out of high school. The talented righty was ranked as the No. 193 prospect and the No. 56 left-handed pitcher in the 2022 class. At each stop, he has shown glimpses of being that player but has been plagued by command issues.

With the departure of Moffett, the Longhorns have lost 13 players to the portal. They have been able to offset those losses with very talented hitters such as Kaleb Freeman, Carson Tinney, Haiden Leffew, and Jack Moroknek. That group will play a key role in helping Texas win another SEC title.

Despite the uncertainty, it shouldn’t take long for Moffett to find a new home. He has the potential to be a very goodbullpen arm if he can find the strike zone more consistently.
