Jazz Chisholm Jr. didn’t know he had just joined one of the most exclusive clubs in baseball history. He was too busy having fun.

The Yankees third baseman hit his 89th career home run Friday night in a win over Oakland. It was his fifth homer since coming off the injured list on June 3 and his 89th of his career.  with his 109 stolen bases through his first 500 career games, Chisholm now belongs to a group of just three players to reach those marks that quickly.

The others? Eric Davis and Alfonso Soriano.

Davis racked up 107 homers and 190 steals over his first 500 games. Soriano—who starred for the Yankees in the early 2000s—put up 97 and 121. Chisholm is still chasing those totals, but with the same blend of electric tools and fearless style, he’s earning comparisons he never expected.

“Never knew that. Okay, that’s cool,” Chisholm told reporters postgame. “I mean, that’s pretty cool. I didn’t know that. I just be out there playing and having fun.”

But when he heard the names? That’s when it hit a little differently.

“Eric Davis, he’s one of my favorite players that I watched when I was a kid,” Chisholm said. “Watching his highlights and the way he played, like, I feel like Byron Buxton is the closest person to him. Watching Byron is just like watching Eric.”

“And Alfonso Soriano? I got to meet him in Miami. I played with his little cousin. So, talking about Alfonso and Eric… those were the guys I was compared to when I was a kid. Small, some power, some speed.”

That’s more than cool. That’s “kind of sick,” Chisholm said.

Over his last 19 games, CHisholm is slashing .329/.392/.557 with four home runs and 13 RBI.
