Blue Jays Make Head-Turning Announcement on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Before Game vs. Red Sox originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Before the Toronto Blue Jays begin their three-game weekend series against the Boston Red Sox, fans and insiders were concerned with the status of All-Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Guerrero Jr. left the Blue Jays’ June 26 game against the Cleveland Guardians and was replaced by Davis Schneider in the lineup after getting hit by a pitch early in the 6-0 win.
He would later get X-rays on the right forearm, and the results would come back negative for a fracture.
The Blue Jays dodged a bullet after hearing about the news, but the team initially ruled Guerrero Jr. out of the series opener against the Red Sox on Friday.
Toronto was in line to have Ernie Clement replace Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the lineup for the game, but just minutes before the first pitch was thrown, the Blue Jays announced that Guerrero Jr. would start for them at first base and bat in the No. 3 spot.

It was a quick turn of events, and it seems that the four-time All-Star is good to go for the Blue Jays last game of the first half of the regular season.
He will look to help the Blue Jays, currently holding a 43-37 record, continue their contention in a tight-knit AL East division as they take on a struggling Boston Red Sox team.
Toronto is just three games behind the division-leading New York Yankees that hold a 46-34 record at the top of the division.
If the Blue Jays can capitalize off of a struggling Boston team that’s currently on a five-game losing streak, Toronto can inch closer to the top spot in AL East.
However, the Tampa Bay Rays are within striking distance and have a chance to mix the AL East up as well with a 46-25 record.
