Could the Browns help facilitate a wild three-team blockbuster trade?

We have entered the dead period until the Cleveland Browns return for training camp in just under a month.

This means that we will start to see more speculative articles covering fun trade ideas, and more. Bleacher Report’s Brett Sobleski has put one out as Miami Dolphins‘ cornerback Jalen Ramsey is likely off to a new home before the start of the 2025 season. And in this exercise, the Browns were named as a third team to help push the trade along. So who did the Browns give up in this deal, and who did they get back?

Sobleski has the Dolphins sending Ramsey to the Chicago Bears in this trade scenario. However, to make the deal happen, he also has the Browns sending former first round cornerback Greg Newsome II to the Dolphins to replenish their cornerback depth after dealing Ramsey. In return, the Browns received offensive tackle Braxton Jones from the Bears to complete the three-team deal to compete with Dawand Jones.

Here is what Sobleski had to say on the deal:

“Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns are hoping Dawand Jones bounces back after a disappointing sophomore season… Either he remains committed and finds a home at left tackle —Braxton Jones can then move to guard and eventually replace Joel Bitonio or Wyatt Teller — or the Browns’ projected starting left tackle gets replaced by a more experienced version.”

The only issue with this proposal, in regard to what Jones could mean for the Browns’ future, is that he is also a pending free agent after the 2025 season. So, just like Newsome, the Browns would be out of contract control of the player. This puts this trade scenario on shaky ground.

Would the Browns make this trade in reality? It’s not likely. The team values their defensive back depth too much and Newsome is a starter on the defensive side of the ball in the slot. Not only that, but the team also signed Cornelius Lucas in free agency to compete with Jones. They likely feel comfortable with their offensive tackle room entering training camp after passing on the opportunity to draft another this past April.

We do not see three-team trades in the NFL much at all. But it’s the offseason, and it’s fun to speculate.
