Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame to induct Nicky Anosike

Former Tennessee women’s basketball player Nicky Anosike will be inducted into the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame as part of its 2025 class.

The induction ceremony be held Aug. 21 at Knoxville Expo Center and proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tennessee Valley.

The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. EDT and tickets are $200 per person or $3,000 for a table (10 seats). Former Tennessee men’s basketball player Ron Slay is slated to be a keynote speaker.

Anosike played for the Lady Vols from 2005-08 under head coach Pat Summitt. She was a member of two Tennessee national championship teams (2007-08). Anosike was named to the 2005 SEC All-Freshman Team.

She played in 146 games for the Lady Vols, averaging 7.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

Following her college career, Anosike played in the WNBA. She was selected in the second round of the 2008 NBA draft (No. 16 overall) by Minnesota, and was named to the 2008 WNBA All-Rookie Team. Anosike was a WNBA All-Star (2009) and named to the league’s all-defensive team in 2009. She played for the Lynx (2008-10), Washington (2011) and Los Angeles (2012).

Anosike was a two-time gold medalist (2007 Pan American Games and 2005 FIBA U-19 World Cup) for Team USA. After her playing career, she served as head coach at Anderson County High School in Clinton, Tennessee.
