It wouldn’t be shocking if most college basketball fans tuned into Duke Blue Devils games this season to witness the generational prospect that is Cooper Flagg.

However, when fans tuned in to watch the former No. 1 overall recruit and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, they were also introduced to fellow former five-star, Kon Knueppel.

The Milwaukee native was one of the best scorers in all of college basketball this past season, averaging 14.4 points on 47.9% shooting from the field and 40.6% from deep.

While he was often overlooked throughout the year due to Flagg’s hype, he didn’t wait long to hear his name called by NBA commissioner Adam Silver during Wednesday’s draft.

Knueppel was selected with the No. 4 overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets.

With On3 having his NIL Valuation at a modest $426,000, he is due for a major payday as he moves a couple of hours up the road.

As confirmed by Spotrac, Knueppel is set to sign a four-year deal worth over $45 million, which will pay him more than $11 million per year.

Although Knueppel will be experiencing a significant shift in his compensation, he will also undergo a cultural shift. While Knueppel led his Wisconsin Lutheran squad to a 30-0 record and state title in high school, and appeared in the Final Four at Duke, he is joining a Charlotte squad that has been stuck in a state of mediocrity.

Knueppel will look to help lead the Hornets franchise to its first playoff appearance since the 2015-16 season and establish himself as one of the league’s best shooters.

It’ll be an uphill battle, but Knueppel seems more than ready for the challenge.
