The Alabama Crimson Tide remains the class of FBS football — at least, that’s what South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers thinks.
On Monday, a day after the validity of Alabama’s pedigree and talent was questioned by another FBS starting passer, Sellers praised the SEC program.
Sellers joined The Zach Gelb Showon Tuesday, saying, “Shoot, Alabama is still Alabama to me.”
Sellers did not mince words, stating, “They were good last year. They’re a good team. They’re big, strong, and fast. That’s how I remember watching them growing up. I don’t really think they’ve changed that much. Obviously, they’ve got a new coaching staff and all that. But they’re still SEC ball, they’re still Alabama.”
Last season, Alabama ushered in a new regime under head coach Kalen DeBoer, formerly of the Washington Huskies. DeBoer led Washington to the national championship in 2023 before becoming the successor to six-time national title-winning head coach Nick Saban.
DeBoer stacked four ranked wins in his first year but ultimately fell short of the lofty expectations for the Tide left by Saban. They failed to win double-digit games for the first time since 2007 while finishing outside the top ten of the final College Football Playoff Poll for just the second time since its introduction circa 2014.
Sellers will face Alabama for the second time in his young college career late in the 2025 campaign. Last year, Sellers passed for two touchdowns and a pick in a narrow 27-25 loss to the Tide.
Nevertheless, Norris refused to downplay Alabama’s talent a day after Florida State Seminoles starting quarterback Thomas Castellanos claimed they would be unable to contain him when the two teams clash in the season opener.
