Tight End University, organized by Kansas City’s Travis Kelce, San Francisco’s George Kittle and former Chicago Bear Greg Olsen, returns for its fifth year.
The summit will take place this week in Nashville, Tenn., where some of the best tight ends in the NFL will get a chance to collaborate and learn from each other.
The Bears have just one player in attendance this year — and it’s not who would expect. Veteran Durham Smythe, who signed a one-year deal this offseason, will be the lone Chicago representative. The two notable absences for the Bears are veteran Cole Kmet, who’s attended Tight End University in the past, and rookie Colston Loveland, who could surely benefit from experienced veterans in the league.
But there are good reasons for the Bears’ top tight ends to skip the annual event. Kmet just got married and is likely spending time with his new wife before football kicks into gear while Loveland is still recovering from his shoulder surgery with the goal to be full-go for training camp next month.
