New York Jets dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields is one of the most athletic signal callers in the NFL. Despite only making six starts for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, Fields finished 14th among QBs in rushing yards with 289. The Jets will give him an extended look as their starting pivot in 2025.
Bleacher Report recently put together a list compiling the 10 “must-have” talents in fantasy football this season. Somewhat surprisingly, Fields made the cut.
“Granted, Fields’ passing numbers to date haven’t been especially impressive; he has never thrown for 2,600 yards or had 20 touchdown passes in a season,” Gary Davenport first admitted. “And the passing-game weapons in New York outside wideout Garrett Wilson aren’t great.”
Davenport then discusses Fields’ rushing upside.
“But the 2021 first-rounder surpassed 1,100 rushing yards in 2022 for the Bears, a season in which he finished as a top-10 fantasy quarterback,” Davenport continued. “And while the Steelers pulled the plug on him six games in last year, he was sixth in fantasy points among signal-callers over that span. Fields’ skills as a runner are a huge boost to his fantasy prospects. And if he can combine that with even so-so passing numbers, he has the potential to be the biggest bargain at the position in fantasy in 2025.”
Fields appears to have a long leash on the Jets’ starting gig. This represents his final opportunity to establish himself as a legitimate NFL starter. Drafting the athletic Fields in your fantasy drafts this season is a good strategy.
