It’s the biggest question for Game 6 of the 2025 NBA Finals: will Tyrese Haliburton play on Thursday night for the Indiana Pacers against the Oklahoma City Thunder?
The answer is … up in the air. Let’s go over all the facts we actually know about the injury he aggravated in Game 5 and what’s been said.
In Game 5, he strained his calf and had a rough contest earlier in the week. After going 0-for-6 from the field, he had four words for reporters: “It’s the Finals, man.”
“I’ve worked my whole life to be here,” he added, “and I want to be out there to compete. Help my teammates any way I can.”
That was followed up be reports that he needed an MRI, but we haven’t heard much about the resuts, except that — per The Athletic — “Haliburton would push to play against the Oklahoma City Thunder.”
Then? There was confirmation that Haliburton will be a game-time decision, which the star guard talked about:
“I have to understand the risks, ask the right questions. But I’m a competitor. I want to play. I’m going to do everything in my power to play.”

What’s more: the team is prepping as if he may not play, so factor that in.
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said they’re preparing to play Game 6 of the NBA Finals without Tyrese Haliburton, per @1075thefan (https://t.co/x0BeqXSpx2).

There’s also a risk that if he plays and gives it his all, he could suffer something more long-term, which would be devastating for him and the Pacers. So we’ll see if he suits up, if he plays more than a few minutes and if he’s able to be the kind of player we’ve seen him be to lead the Pacers to the Finals.
