Tyreek Hill’s Race With Noah Lyles Just Got Some Bad News originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Fans looking forward to seeing Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill racing this weekend got some bad news today: The two won’t be squaring off after all.
Olympic gold medalist Lyles shared with reporters on Tuesday that he had cancelled the face for “personal reasons,” while declining to share what precisely those reasons are.
After the American sprinter won the gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Hill challenged him to a race. After months of back and forth and a fair amount of trash talk between the two, they were scheduled to finally face off this weekend in Times Square.
“Unfortunately, there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn’t come to pass, but we were full on,” said Lyles. “We were going to shut down New York’s Times Square and everything, it was going to be a lot of fun.”
Hill, who was a two-time state track champion in high school, trolled Lyles with a meme on X following the race’s cancellation.

Lyles also shared that many observers, including potential sponsors, considered the race to be nothing but talk.
“A lot of people didn’t believe it to be true. They thought it was just, ‘Oh, this is just them talking online,'” Lyles said. “The companies didn’t believe it’s real.”
Turns out, they were right.
