The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball program has added yet another potential key piece of their 2026 pitching staff, landing a commitment Sunday night from left-handed pitcher Evan Steckmesser.
Steckmesser, a graduate student, is a face that Alabama has seen previously across his last two seasons while with the Samford Bulldogs. Between the 2024-25 seasons, the left-hander made three relief appearances against the Crimson Tide, allowing a combined three earned runs.
This past season, Steckmesser had a stellar year at Samford in which the senior owned a 1-3 record with a 2.78 ERA and 50:6 K:BB ratio across 45.1 innings pitched. In those 22 relief appearances for the Bulldogs, Steckmesser also held opponents to a combined .243 AVG against, with his numbers across the board an improvement from 2024 in which the left-hander owned a 6.08 ERA across 23.2 innings pitched.
Prior to Samford, Steckmesser attended Snead State Community College during the 2022-23 seasons. The left-hander is also a native of Alabama who attended Grissom High School, and will be entering his final season of college baseball in 2026.
Blessed to announce my commitment to the University of Alabama. Thank you to Alabama’s coaching staff and everyone that has helped me to this point. Looking forward to this next chapter. Roll Tide! 🐘 pic.twitter.com/ekkPrkgGQO
