Angel Reese’s Former Coach Sends Strong Message After Chicago Sky Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Since coming to the WNBA last season, Angel Reese has struggled a lot with her shooting. But on Sunday, she notched perhaps the most impressive feat of her young career.
She led the Chicago Sky to a 78-66 victory over the Connecticut Sun while recording a triple-double of 11 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. It was her first career triple-double in the pros, and she became the second-youngest player in league history to record one, behind only Caitlin Clark.
WNBA legend Teresa Weatherspoon, who coached the Sky last season when Reese was a rookie, reacted to Reese’s accomplishment with an Instagram post.
“That will and want to!!!” the caption read.
Through 10 games this season, Reese is averaging 10.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.7 steals per game. She’s shooting just 35.7% from the field, but at this point in her basketball life, her rebounding and defense are her strong suits.
Sunday’s game was close until the fourth quarter, when Chicago held the Sun to just 12 points to secure the victory. For the game, Chicago held the Sun to 39.1% shooting from the field and was a plus-six on the boards.
Chicago now has a 3-7 record on the season. In Commissioner’s Cup play, it is 1-3 and tied for the worst mark in the Eastern Conference.
Overall, it has been a struggle for the franchise over the last couple of years. It won the WNBA championship in 2021, but its roster looks a lot different than it did then. It currently ranks 12th in defensive rating, offensive rating and points per game so far this season.
