Brittney Griner Breaks Silence on Alleged Caitlin Clark Comments originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Caitlin Clark is fresh off of a tremendous showing against the New York Liberty after missing the Indiana Fever’s previous five games with a left quad strain.
In large part, thanks to her 32 points, Clark’s Fever were able to hand the Liberty its first loss of the season after they started 9-0.
While the fans and league itself are likely thrilled that Clark is back after viewership during her absence saw a 55% decline, an incident involving the Atlanta Dream’s 10-time WNBA All-Star, Brittney Griner, has resurfaced.
When the two teams met on May 22 in a game that saw the Fever win 81-76, Griner fouled out after scoring just five points on 2-of-6 shooting and grabbing seven boards.
After making her way to the bench, the camera panned to Griner where she appeared to fire off a profanity-laced statement. It’s not clear what she said or whom it was directed at, but users online speculated that Clark was the recipient.
On Sunday, a reporter asked Griner about the incident and if she remembered what she said. Griner revealed she couldn’t recall the situation all too well and clearly wasn’t willing to fuel the social media speculation,
“I remember fouling out, being mad,” Griner said. “I remember fouling out on, I believe it was (Natasha) Howard driving to the basket. They said I put my hand in but hey…”
She also admitted that even if she was shown the video, it wouldn’t help jog her memory as to what she did or didn’t say.
While fans may want there to be drama, it appears this instance will just go down in the archives of the world’s unsolved mysteries.
