Adam Scott’s Special Guest at US Open Grabs Attention originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Australian Adam Scott, the veteran golfer, is the fan favorite to win this year’s U.S. Open and add another major trophy to his cabinet. He is one shot behind leader Sam Burns, who sits at 2‑under par through seven holes. To give him a boost in the final round, an unexpected guest graced the course.
Oakmont Country Club became the scene of an unexpected reunion on Saturday, when former U.S. Open champion Ernie Els paid a surprise visit to the practice range to support Scott, his longtime friend, ahead of the final rounds of the 125th U.S. Open.
Els, a two‑time U.S. Open winner at Oakmont in 1994 and at Congressional Country Club in 1997, strolled down the fairway alongside Scott, offering tips and encouragement as media and fans looked on. The South African superstar, nicknamed “The Big Easy” for his fluid swing and laid‑back demeanor, was in fine form as he greeted onlookers and paused for photos.
Social media lit up with snapshots of the pair laughing and discussing strategy, prompting fans to remark on the rare sight of two major champions sharing the same practice tee.
“Big Ern living his best life,” a fan commented.
“Looking very sharp Ernie,” another expressed.
“Two of the best looking swings in the sport.” one fan pointed out.

“He could still make the cut. Such a beast,” a fan wrote.
“One of the best. Big Easy 🏌️” another posted.
“He’s been on the commentary on Sky Golf in the UK, full of insight. What a chap,” one fan dropped some insight.
Els’s presence not only highlighted the deep camaraderie among golf’s elite but also underscored Scott’s bid to capture a second major, 12 years after his Masters triumph in 2013.
