Brad Marchand's Postgame Moment Draws Laughs

Brad Marchand’s Postgame Moment Draws Laughs originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Brad Marchand made history in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final as the Florida Panthers went on to beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 to take a 3-2 lead with the series shifting to Sunrise, FL, for Game 6 on Tuesday.

Marchand scored two goals in Florida’s road win on Saturday night, becoming the first player since 1988 to score six goals in a single Stanley Cup Final.

The veteran winger also became the first player to score at least five goals in the finals with two different teams, and Marchand was asked what his younger 2011 self — the one who won the Cup with Boston — would think of his 2025 version.

“Man, that guy’s good-looking. That’d probably be it,” Marchand said, drawing laughs in the room, including from teammate Sam Reinhart seated next to him.

Marchand’s goals brought his total in this postseason’s finals to six. He failed to find the net in Game 4, but he’s scored at least one goal in all four other games this series.

His 13 career goals in the Stanley Cup Final are also the most among active players, and he’s tied for the third-most goals in this year’s playoffs with 10, only trailing teammate Sam Bennett (15) and the Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl (11).

The Panthers winger opened the scoring after a quick move in the first period and added a ridiculous goal in the third frame, cutting inside and slipping the puck through Calvin Pickard’s legs for his second goal.

“Those big moments when you need guys to step up, time and time again, he’s there to produce,” Reinhart said.
