Red Sox Receive Promising News on Alex Bregman’s Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Ahead of a pivotal weekend series against the rival New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox are gearing up for the return of one of their top offseason acquisitions.
Third baseman Alex Bregman, who has been on the injured list since May 24 due to a quad injury, is inching closer to activation. Although it will not happen this week, the former All-Star shared a positive update on his recovery.
“We had a little ultrasound that showed that it was doing really well and healing the way we wanted it to,” Bregman said via MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “So just continue the progression of getting stronger and picking up the running volume. It’s moving in the right direction.”
Bregman told the media last week his rehab was at “warp speed.” On Friday, Bregman revealed that he is running up to 50 percent while “rehabbing for 12 hours a day.”
Prior to the injury, Bregman was playing like an offensive powerhouse slashing .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs, 17 doubles, and 35 RBIs across 51 games. His .938 OPS led Boston at the time of his injury.
Bregman did not want to set a firm timetable for his return, but when asked if it could happen before the 2025 MLB All-Star break, he said, “I hope so.”
The Red Sox are currently 4-2 during a nine-game stretch against the American League. A series win against the Yankees this weekend would cap off their best week of the season and catapult them back to .500.
If Boston can keep up their moderately hot pace and get Bregman back, it would signify the first sign of optimism following the promotion of top prospect Roman Anthony.
