The Indianapolis Colts were on Pro Football Focus’ list of teams who are being overlooked heading into the 2025 NFL season.
PFF’s Dalton Wasserman put together his list of five teams that he believes are being overlooked this offseason. Along with the Colts, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Seattle, and Dallas were also included.
“All the Colts need is someone who can complete passes and play a complementary role for Steichen and a talented roster,” wrote Wasserman. “If they can find that, they’ll stay relevant in the AFC postseason race.”
Of course, there are a lot of unknowns at the quarterback position for the Colts, but there is also a lot to like about this roster as a whole.
Around whoever the starting quarterback is, there will be a trio of wide receivers who all eclipsed 800 receiving yards last season, which made the Colts’ the only team in the NFL in 2024 to have three wideouts hit that mark.
The Colts also added a do-it-all presence at tight end in Tyler Warren, and have Jonathan Taylor in the backfield, who is coming off a 1,400-yard season, totaling the fourth most rushing yards in football.
On defense, the Colts still have a defensive front that has been heavily invested in, while the secondary has been reshaped this offseason. The play of both units should also be elevated by Lou Anarumo’s more aggressive and malleable defensive scheme.
So, as Wasserman said, even some steady play from the quarterback position should have the Colts in a position to win games. While it was OTAs and minicamp, Shane Steichen was “very pleased” with what he saw from Daniel Jones.
“Very pleased with what we got right now,” Steichen said of Jones’ play after Thursday’s practice, via Locked on Colts. “He’s been doing a hell of a job. Really smart football player. Learned the offense very quickly. Making really good decisions out there through OTAs. Obviously want to carry that over to training camp, but he’s done a really good job. Great command of the huddle, ultimate pro.”
