Cowboys' new workouts include 75-game NFL starter, All-UFL defender, former draft picks

Two minicamp practices down, and the Cowboys are looking at outside help to perhaps bolster some thin areas on the team’s roster before they break ahead of training camp.

Five players are set to come in for a workout with coaches and staffers, per the team website. Four are defensive prospects with varying degrees of pro experience; one is a veteran on the offensive side of the ball.

And, continuing a trend from the past couple years, the Cowboys aren’t shy about looking to the spring league for possible under-the-radar talent. Two of the prospects are hot off the 2025 UFL season, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Brandon Aubrey and KaVontae Turpin from developmental ball to a spot on America’s Team.

Here’s a quick look at who the Cowboys are working out as minicamp winds down.

OT George Fant

Fant comes with just over 100 games of NFL experience, 75 starts on his resume, and time spent with three different teams- the Seahawks, Jets, and Texans. The undrafted offensive tackle out of Western Kentucky will turn 33 in July. It’s worth pointing out that while with the Jets from 2020 to 2022, he practiced every day against a defensive line coached by current Cowboys DL coach Aaron Whitecotton.

DT Perrion Winfrey

A fourth-round draft pick out of Oklahoma in 2022, Winfrey made 13 game appearances as a rookie for Cleveland. But a handful of off-the-field incidents led to his being waived after just one season. He moved on to the Jets, where he got into one game in 2023 as part of the line coached by Whitecotton. The 290-pounder played for the Birmingham Stallions and made the All-UFL team this spring.

CB Robert Rochell

Rochell was a fourth-round selection in 2021 and played his first two seasons with the Rams, seeing action in 28 games. After practice squad stints in Seattle and Carolina, he landed in Green Bay midway through the 2023 campaign. He played in 23 games (playoffs included) for the Packers over the next two seasons. The 27-year-old Louisiana native had spent the offseason with Kansas City prior to his release early last month.

CB Jerry Jacobs

Jacobs went undrafted out of Arkansas in 2021 but made the team in Detroit in Dan Campbell’s first year as coach. Over the next three seasons, he saw the field in 40 games and made 29 starts. He logged three interceptions in 2023, including two against Green Bay’s Jordan Love in a Week 4 Lions win. He did just a short stint on the Rams’ practice squad in 2024.

A native of DeSoto, Tex., Levelston went undrafted out of SMU in 2024. He signed a three-year deal with Seattle as an UDFA but didn’t make it through the season or even onto the field in a regular-season contest. He joined the UFL’s Memphis Showboats during the spring season and had a strong showing over just five games.
