Harrison high jumper leads Lafayette area athletes at 2025 IHSAA state track finals

INDIANAPOLIS ― Harrison junior Makayla Ketterer uncharacteristically fell a bit short her first jump.

With the high bar marked at 5 feet 2 inches, the height seemed also guaranteed ― until it wasn’t.

Ketterer missed her first jump, but quickly found her rhythm soon after.

“I was definitely nervous,” Ketterer said. “But that knocked all the nerves out of me. It was such a big meet.”

Harrison Makayla Ketterer competes in the high jump during the IHSAA girls track and field sectional meet, Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Harrison High School in West Lafayette, Ind.

Ketterer would hit a majority of her jumps after and finished fourth in the IHSAA state championship at North Central High School Friday, June 6. She jumped 5-7, just one inch off of her personal best.

The fourth-place finish from Ketterer marked a successful day at the track for the Harrison girls team Saturday.

Harrison senior Sawyer DeWitt finished fifth in the 3200 meters, clocking in at 10:31.38.

The team of DeWitt, sophomore Gabby Converse and juniors Kaitlyn Manfra and Carla Rodriguez combined to finish sixth in the 4 x 800meter-relay in 9:08.62.

West Lafayette senior Aubrey Alexander placed sixth in shot put, throwing 40 feet and 9.5 inches to round out the Lafayette area athletes that reached the podium.

The Lafayette area didn’t have any male athletes reach the podium at the IHSAA boys track and field meet Saturday.
