Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado Issues Message to MLB After Walk-Off Against Star-Studded Dodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenadospoke with Fanduel Sports Network Midwest’s Jim Hayes following his walk-off single that secured the series victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers, issuing a message to the rest of the league about how the team is feeling after taking down the Dodgers twice in a row.
The Cardinals have held the Dodgers to just one run in two games through the series this far, surrendering just one run in the victory on Saturday while holding them scoreless in Friday’s 5-0 defeat.
After the victory, the Cardinals moved to 22-14 against teams above .500 this season, proving they can show up big against tough opponents.
Arenado didn’t start in Saturday’s game against the Dodgers and was only called upon as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth, but he was able to come up with another highlight play for the team as he’s done all season.
The 34-year-old gave all the credit to his teammates for the victory, mentioning Masyn Winn and Pedro Pages‘ efforts while commending starter Eric Fedde on navigating the Dodgers’ lineup.
“(Fedde) did a great job, he battled,” Arenado said. “That’s the toughest lineup you’re ever going to face and for him to make his way around that was pretty special.”
Arenado credited the intensity to the rivalry the two teams have had in recent years due to postseason matchups, saying the rivalry “is pretty deep.”
The rivalry mixed with the want to beat the Dodgers that most of the MLB shares helped propel the Cardinals to victory, leaving Arenado to lend this message to incoming opponents.
“They’ve got some stars over there that people want to watch, but we’ve got a great team and we’re not afraid of anybody,” Arenado said.
