Where does the Indianapolis Colts’ Tanor Bortolini rank among the rest of the centers in the NFL heading into the 2025 season?
Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus recently ranked all 32 centers and put Bortolini at No. 30, ahead of Seattle’s Olusegun Oluwatimi and Detroit’s Tate Ratledge.
“Bortolini showed a bit more of a well-rounded game in his first year as a pro (compared to Danny Pinter), albeit on a limited sample,” wrote Cameron. “He produced a 64.0-plus PFF grade as both a run blocker and a pass protector, which may bode well for his chances of taking control of the starting job in 2025.”
With Ryan Kelly missing some time in 2024, Bortolini would appear in eight games as a rookie, which included five starts. On the year, PFF credited him with surrendering no sacks and seven pressures over 211 pass-blocking snaps.
Among all centers, Bortolini ranked 15th in PFF’s pass-blocking efficiency metric and was 22nd out of 40 centers in run-blocking grade.
“I saw a young player that got better each time he went out there,” offensive line coach Tony Sparano Jr. said. “The game wasn’t too big for him. Athletically, he has a ton to offer in terms of what he’s able to do on the move, in terms of how he’s able to mirror people in pass protection.”
While Bortolini is the expected starter at center for the Colts, he is competing with Danny Pinter for that job. We saw this in action during Thursday’s OTA practice, where it was Pinter’s turn to take the first team reps.
