Dallas Wings Reveal Crucial Paige Bueckers Update on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Dallas Wings star guard Paige Bueckers was ruled out on Thursday for Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks. She suffered a concussion in a May 29 loss to the Chicago Sky after colliding with Courtney Vandersloot.
Wings head coach Chris Koclanes revealed Bueckers felt like she had a headache.
“You know, she didn’t really say anything,” Koclanes said the day after she sustained the injury. “And then yesterday, after the game, she said she was feeling like she had a headache.”
Bueckers was then placed in concussion protocol and missed the next two matchups, both of which were losses: another to the Sky (94-83) and then to the Seattle Storm (83-77).
Bueckers was present at Wings practice on Thursday but spent most of it riding a stationary bike. However, the 2025 No. 1 overall pick did step onto the court when the team held a shooting competition.
While the Wings are just 1-7 early in the 2025 WNBA season, Bueckers has already shown she can compete at this level. The former UConn star is averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.
Her best performance came on May 27 against the Connecticut Sun, when she posted 21 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
Bueckers is only a few months removed from leading UConn to a national title. She played five seasons at the college level in Storrs, winning multiple National Player of the Year awards in 2021 and being named a unanimous first-team All-American three times.
