The Class 2A state track and field meet took place on Friday, May 9 at the University of North Florida and multiple Brevard County athletes earned medals after finishing in the top eight of their events.
The top Brevard County performance of the day came in the girls 4×100 relay. Cocoa’s I’Yana Barnes, Trinity Parham, Jayla Edgecombe, and Diamond Bryant ran a time of 45.60 in the event to place first at the meet and set a new county record. The previous record time had also been set by a Cocoa relay squad back in 2023, with Parham being a member of that relay as well.
Bryant, Parham, Barnes, and Shovonne Harp ran a time of 4:02.93 to earn eighth in the 4×400. Individually, Parham finished second in the 200 meters (24.67) and third in the 100 meters (11.85). Bryant notched two top eight finishes as well after placing fourth in both the 100 (11.86) and 200 (24.79).
West Shore distance runner Selah Vignier earned fifth in the 3,200 when she clocked a time of 10:49.96 and Astronaut’s Alana Gibbons placed eighth in shot put (35-10.75).
On the boys’ side of the competition, Titusville’s Ralphel Smith finished fourth in the high jump (6-5.5) and Trenten Kelley placed sixth in the discus (152-4). Astronaut’s Noah McCollam claimed seventh in the 3,200 after running a time of 9:39.29.
The Class 3A meet got started on May 9 as well but weather delays ultimately led to the meet being postponed with events schedule to restart the morning of May 10.
