Bucs sign another SEC player ahead of rookie minicamp

The SEC has been kind to the Bucs and many teams in the NFL, so they are going back to that well one more time ahead of rookie minicamp.

The Bucs are signing Kentucky kicker Alex Raynor to their rookie roster to see what he has ahead of their rookie minicamp. The Georgia Southern transfer in Raynor made 25 for 27 field goal attempts in his two years in the SEC, and his 92.6 field goal percentage set Kentucky and SEC records in the process.

He went 70 for 86 in his combined college career at Kentucky and Georgia Southern.

The Bucs still have Chase McLaughlin, who went 30 for 32 in 2024 and remains one of the more reliable kickers in the NFL. Much like relief pitchers in the MLB, kickers can fall off at a moment’s notice, so having eyes on more kickers helps in the instance you need to go to the talent pool for another or if an injury happens.

This does not mean McLaughlin is in any condition to lose his job; it is more so just a formality to stay ready as a team in case of emergency.
