Pope Leo XIV’s election has absolutely nothing to do with New York City. It certainly has nothing to do with basketball at all. The dude is from Chicago — he’s a Cubs fan, for crying out loud. He’s lived in Europe for decades at this point.
But none of that has stopped Knicks fans from using Pope Leo’s new status as a positive sign for New York’s championship chances this year.
Talk about New York delusion, man. Sheesh.
If you’d let Knicks fans tell it, because Pope Leo graduated from Villanova in 1977, it’s officially their year. Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart all went to Villanova, too. So, of course, that means the Knicks will win it all.
One of the (many!) Knicks fans who seem to believe this is Spike Lee. This man dedicated an entire Instagram post to congratulating Pope Leo and the Knicks. Yes, the Knicks.
You can’t make this up, fam. Gotta love Knicks fans. Bless y’all.
