While still months away, the Alabama Crimson Tide are already likely positioned to see multiple players selected in the 2025 MLB draft. However, could any of those names come within the first round?
Well, according to a recent mock draft from USA TODAY Sports’ Gabe Lacques, Alabama does currently have one player projected in first round consideration, and that is redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Riley Quick.
According to the mock draft, Lacques has Quick coming off the board at pick No. 28 overall in the first round to the Kansas City Royals, saying of the Alabama right-hander:
“With two picks in six slots, the Royals can roll the dice on some volatility and Quick fills that bill. At 6-6, 255, he offers a massive frame to build upon but also not much of a track record after undergoing Tommy John surgery early in 2024. His results after a relatively short turnaround are fine, averaging more than a strikeout an inning in 11 starts this season.”
Likely the Crimson Tide’s top starter this season, Quick is currently enjoying a breakout 2025 campaign where the right-hander owns a 7-2 record with a 3.47 ERA and a 50:17 K:BB ratio across 46.2 innings pitched. Making a total of 11 starts over that span, opponents are also batting for a combined .238 AVG against Quick, and comes only a year after he missed almost all of the 2024 season due to an injury.
The 2025 MLB draft is set to take place from July 13-14 in Atlanta, Georgia.
