Adam Peters: 'Josh Harris has done everything we've asked for'

“I’m not an F- guy,” Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris famously said in response to the NFLPA grades in 2023.

As it turns out, Peters was correct. He put his money where his mouth was and significantly improved Washington’s NFLPA report for 2024. The NFLPA gives NFL players a survey with 11 topics. Under Harris’s leadership, the Commanders improved in nine of those 11 categories in one full year. The only two areas Washington didn’t improve were nutritionists and strength coaches. Washington received an A for its strength coaches each year.

While quarterback Jayden Daniels, head coach Dan Quinn, and general manager Adam Peters share much of the credit for the Commanders’ resurgence last year, it would have been impossible without Harris and his ownership group.

Peters was on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday, where he praised Washington’s owner since July 2023.

“He invested a ton of money into this place,” Peters said. The GM then pointed out his office window, where Washington’s practice fields stand. One was an Astro-turf field, which drew laughs from McAfee and his crew. Peters discussed how he thought it was an old picture when he first saw it until he arrived in Ashburn and realized it was real. So, he went to Harris hoping to get it removed.

“To Josh’s credit, I said, ‘Josh, we’ve got to get rid of this thing, this is terrible.’ He said, ‘Do it.’ And that’s what he’s said about everything. From our kitchen to our locker room to our meeting rooms to our stadium, to the locker room at the stadium, everything that we’ve asked for, he’s done it. He said, ‘Will this be good for the players. We said, ‘Yeah, this is why.’ He said go ahead and do it.”

Peters then discussed how construction at Commanders Park is far from done, as the team is building a new locker room. He joked that that grade would improve soon. The locker rooms were one area Harris couldn’t immediately improve because of space, but he’s found a way.

The GM, as usual, was humble, refusing to take any credit. Truthfully, Peters doesn’t receive enough credit. He acknowledged that Washington’s headquarters may never have all the “bells and whistles” of other places, but the Commanders have something other teams don’t have: the human capital. Peters praised everyone, including the coaches and players, the equipment and training staff, and the PR team.

“It’s been a great place to be,” Peters said.

Boy, how times have changed
