The Miami Dolphins trimmed their roster to 53 players on Tuesday, but the bubble players who snuck on to the team can’t quite exhale yet. General manager Chris Grier and the Dolphins front office still have work to do. That includes combing through the hundreds of NFL players set to hit the waiver wire Wednesday.
Last year, the Dolphins added one player off waivers following roster cutdown day: wide receiver Grant DuBose.
That didn’t amount to much. DuBose appeared in only three games with Miami and caught two passes before suffering a scary injury in December that ended his season.
That’s mostly the norm. While there’s rare exceptions like Zach Sieler, who was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins in 2019, very few players will be claimed Wednesday and a minority of those players will make an impact with their new team.
If the Dolphins do add a player Wednesday, it’d make sense for the team to target running backs, tight ends, offensive linemen, or cornerbacks. Here are eight players set to hit the waiver wire who could fit the bill:
CB Jalyn Armour-Davis (Ravens)
Armour-Davis was a 2022 fourth-round pick for the Ravens and appeared in 19 games over three seasons with the team. But he finished all three years on injured reserve while Baltimore kept adding cornerbacks.
With Jaire Alexander joining draft picks Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa, Armour-Davis needed a strong August to make the team. Despite holding opposing quarterbacks to an 8.8 passer rating, Armour-Davis is headed to waivers.
CB Beanie Bishop Jr. (Steelers)
Last year, Bishop looked like one of the best undrafted steals in the NFL. The 5’10 slot corner was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month in October after recording three interceptions in a two-game span.
However, the Steelers added Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay in the offseason, which eventually pushed Bishop off their active roster.
TE Greg Dulcich (Giants)
The former Broncos third-round pick was tied with Isaac TeSlaa of the Lions for the league lead in touchdown receptions this preseason with three each. In addition to that, Dulcich showed some decent pass blocking ability too.
BOOM! Just like that!!!

RB Audric Estime (Broncos)
Even with the additions of J.K. Dobbins and second-round pick RJ Harvey in Denver, Estime getting cut was a bit surprising. The 2024 fifth-round pick is still just 21 and recorded 337 yards and two touchdowns last year as a rookie.

TE E.J. Jenkins (Eagles)
The Dolphins signed Pharaoh Brown in March in an effort to add a big, strong blocking tight end. Evidently, he didn’t do enough to keep that job. Perhaps Jenkins, a 6’7 blocking specialist, can fill that role instead.
CB Damarri Mathis (Broncos)
The Broncos already had one of the deepest cornerback rooms in the NFL, but added another first-rounder to the secondary when they picked Jahdae Barron. Someone had to be pushed off the roster and that ended up being Mathis, who is on waivers despite chatter that Denver could look to trade the corner.
Last year, Mathis appeared in nine games as a reserve corner and was credited by PFF with allowing a 39.6 passer rating.
OT Esa Pole (Chiefs)
According to the Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell, the Chiefs would love to get Pole back but there’s “outside interest” after the undrafted rookie was waived Tuesday. That’s not too surprising after the 6’7 tackle was credited with allowing zero pressures in his 49 preseason pass blocking snaps.
TE Treyton Welch (Saints)
Welch seemed like a shoo-in for the Saints roster after impressing in preseason, but he was one of the most surprising cuts across the league Tuesday. New Orleans has reportedly already offered the tight end a practice squad spot if he clears waivers.
