76ers Send Clear Message on Joel Embiid During NBA Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ biggest concern is the health of Joel Embiid. Last season was the worst for Embiid’s health as he was limited to just 19 games. The 2023 MVP dealt with lower-body injuries that have kept him away from action, which held the team back.
In February, Embiid was shut down by the 76ers to focus on his health. The seven-time All-Star finished the 2024-25 campaign averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Philly gave him an early time off in the past regular season so that he could spend more time rehabbing his injuries and taking care of his body. After all, he’s the team’s best player and leader.
This offseason, the organization and its star player are focused on getting Embiid to top shape for the 2025-26 season.
At the 2025 NBA draft, 76ers president Daryl Morey was asked about an update regarding Embiid. Morey gave encouraging news about the franchise star regarding his rehab journey.
“Spoke to Joel today, he’s very engaged, attacking rehab, doing everything he can to be out there,” Morey said. “He had a meeting with Dr. Glashow this week. All things — to use the NASA term — nominal. Things are going well and expected, and we expect that to continue.
Morey was also asked if Embiid will be ready for the 76ers’ training camp, which opens in September.
“Yeah, I mean, things are on track to be ready right around there,” the executive answered.

Embiid’s injuries have held him back over the past two seasons. After winning the MVP award over Nikola Jokic in 2023, his body has been heavily affected by various lower-body injuries. Through the past two seasons, the five-time All-NBA has only appeared in 58 games.
However, Embiid has proven that he’s still one of the best players in the league when he’s healthy.
Next season, fans expect him to share the floor with his All-Star teammates, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey. Many are also looking forward to seeing him play with the young tandem of Jared McCain and the No. 3 pick of this year’s draft, VJ Edgecombe.
