57 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.57?

The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we’re counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast.

Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let’s take a look at who has won No. 57 since the inaugural season in 2002.

Texans players to wear No. 57

No. 57 currently belongs to second-year offensive tackle Blake Fisher. Drafted out of Notre Dame, Fisher was brought in to serve as the swing tackle and eventual replacement for Tytus Howard on the right side of the offensive line. Over the final five games, the 6-foot-6 tackle took on a bigger role, starting in five games while helping Houston make the postseason for a second straight year.

But Fisher struggled mightily during his tenure at tackle, leading all rookies from Weeks 13-17 in pressures allowed. He also gave up four sacks, including two in the divisional round loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. With a new offensive line coach in Cole Popovich, expectations are high for Fisher to prove he’s a reliable option who could be a standout right tackle past 2025, but he’ll have some competition going into training camp.

Rookie tackle Tay Ersery is getting reps at both left and right tackle, so there’s a strong chance that with a solid training camp, he starts on one side. Fisher isn’t promised anything after a woeful finish last season, but hope remains high that he’ll turn into a valuable piece on this new version of the offensive line.

  • OT Blake Fisher (2024-Present)
  • LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (2021-2022)
  • LB Brennan Scarlett (2016-2020)
  • LB Justin Tuggle (2013-2015)
  • LB Jesse Nading (2011-2012)
  • LB Kevin Bentley (2008-2010)
  • OL Drew Hogdon (2005-2007)
  • LB Quincy Monk (2004)

Best Player: Brennan Scarlett

For five seasons, Texans fans could ask for more from Scarlett. A rotational linebacker who provided stability as the No. 3 pass-rusher, Scarlett went from helping Houston win division titles to being a cornerstone in the inevitable rebuild under Nick Caserio in 2020.

The numbers don’t seem to warrant a G.O.A.T. chatter, but it’s his leadership and impact that give Scarlett the nod. Over five seasons, he totaled 158 tackles, 5.5 sacks and an interception. Scarlett also was considered a fan favorite off the bench.

Options are truly limited here, but Scarlett deserves some recognition.
