5 plays that stood out from Dolphins' preseason win vs. Jaguars

Miami wrapped up its 2025 NFL preseason slate with a 14-6 triumph over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night from Hard Rock Stadium. It moved the Dolphins‘ preseason record to 2-0-1.

The third dress rehearsal paved the way for some final takeaways before Miami’s 2025 NFL season arrives for real on Sept. 7 with a road trip to take on the Indianapolis Colts at 1 p.m. ET from Lucas Oil Stadium.

As the preseason concludes, here’s a look back at five plays that stood out from the Dolphins’ preseason win over the Jaguars:

Chop Robinson dumps John Wolford

On the first play from scrimmage, second-year linebacker Chop Robinson got loose and dumped Jaguars quarterback John Wolford.

The Dolphins’ first-round selection in the 2024 NFL draft had six sacks a season ago and looks primed to improve upon those numbers in 2025.

Jonah Savaiinaea stalls Dolphins’ first offensive series

A final teaching moment might not be the worst thing for Dolphins rookie Jonah Savaiinaea. The starting left guard was penalized on Miami’s first offensive play as an ineligible man downfield. It wiped out an 11-yard completion to Malik Washington and effectively killed the Dolphins’ first offensive series.

Those are the mistakes that stall drives and get NFL teams beat. Again, not a bad final teaching moment for Savaiinaea.

Tua Tagovailoa gets sacked on the Dolphins’ second series

Admittedly, it wasn’t a great offensive showing in the final preseason action for Miami. Against the Jaguars’ backups, the Dolphins went three-and-out twice to begin the night.

That included Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa being sacked on each of the first two possessions of the night. Miami surrendered six sacks on the night, including the pair with Tagovailoa and the first-team offense out there.

Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chub tag-team for sack

The Dolphins are banking on their pass rush being one of the best in the NFL. On Saturday night, some of Miami’s excitement about that group was on display.

Miami linebackers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb combined for a sack of Wolford to end the Jaguars’ third drive in another punt. The Dolphins got off to a strong start defensively, spearheaded by the pass-rushing talents of Robinson, Phillips and Chubb.

Malik Washington takes it 25 yards to paydirt

Even in spite of the poor offensive start, the Dolphins still got some final, meaningful work in for a number of key figures.

That includes second-year receiver Malik Washington, who looks like he is trending toward a breakout 2025 campaign. After 26 grabs for 223 yards in 2024, Washington put together arguably the finest highlight of the 2025 preseason for the Dolphins as he juked Jaguars linebacker Chad Muma into next week.

If Washington can morph himself into a consistent threat, that should only help Miami star receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to be even more explosive in 2025.
