5 New York Jets starting jobs that could be up for grabs in 2025

The New York Jets are turning to a new chapter under head coach Aaron Glenn & Co. It should come as no surprise there are starting spots up for grabs.

But which ones specifically?

Here are five starting spots to watch for during training camp in 2025:

Wide receiver

East Rutherford, NJ -- September 29 -- JaƕQuan McMillian of Denver tackles Allen Lazard of the Jets after he made this catch in the first half as the Denver Broncos edged the New York Jets 10-9 at MetLife Stadium.

Garrett Wilson is the clear No. 1 receiver for the Jets even before his extension. But who will start across from him? Allen Lazard, Josh Reynolds, and rookie Arian Smith are names to watch.

Defensive tackle

Of course Quinnen Williams will lead the way in the middle of the Jets’ defensive line. But who will help him? Derrick Nnadi, Byron Coward and Jay Tufele are three veteran additions vying for that starting spot next to Williams.

Safety

Tony Adams returns to New York, but anyone could be the Jets’ starting safeties. Andre Cisco signed and Malachi Moore was selected at the 2025 NFL draft.

Running back

New York Jets running back Breece Hall (20) runs with the ball in the first quarter as Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo (54) is shown in the background, Sunday, November 17, 2024, in East Rutherford.

Glenn’s own words: It will be a running back by committee approach by the Jets in 2025. Breece Hall could be the No. 1… but Braelon Allen had a productive year as a rookie before a change in coaching staff. Both are likely to get touches, but who gets more?

Tight end

After it appeared as though New York Jets tight end Jeremy Ruckert (89) completed a pass, he bobbled the ball and was unable to hold onto it, Sunday, November 17, 2024, in East Rutherford.

Most rightly assume Mason Taylor is going to be the Jets’ top tight end in 2025. But it’s worth noting that Jeremy Ruckert was said to be in the mix still by Glenn. Ruckert needs to have a good year to keep his NFL career as well… and he played alongside quarterback Justin Fields in college. That helps.
