3 wide receivers the Steelers should target after George Pickens trade to Cowboys

George Pickens is now a Dallas Cowboy — leaving a massive hole at the WR2 position for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. The move isn’t as questionable as the timing of the trade — which arguably should have taken place during the 2025 NFL Draft — but it now begs the question: who should Pittsburgh bring in to replace him? Here are three targets the Steelers should heavily consider:

Allen Lazard

Arguably the most likely route the Steelers may take, trading for Lazard is both cheap and easy on draft capital. The Jets wide receiver already has chemistry with Aaron Rodgers, and according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Steelers may be interested.

Amari Cooper

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper (18) goes up for the touchdown pass before falling on his back during second half action at the Bills home game against the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Dec. 29, 2024. Reaching in unsuccessfully is New York Jets cornerback Brandin Echols (26).

This signing made sense even before Pickens was traded off the roster — but now, signing Cooper should be priority No. 1 for the Steelers. The 30-year-old veteran has produced six 1,000-yard receiving seasons with three different NFL teams, and did so as recently as 2023 with the Browns. Cooper could not only alleviate the growing pains sans Pickens — he could be an upgrade, as there was far more immaturity on the field in 2024 than production from the new Cowboys WR.

Tyler Boyd

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Tyler Boyd (83) tries to evade Minnesota Vikings linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. (0) during the fourth quarter at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024.

Boyd, who was born in Clairton, Pennsylvania and went to the University of Pittsburgh, could be an ideal situation for both parties. Don’t let his 2024 stats (390 receiving yards) with the Titans fool you — the veteran receiver is dangerous from the slot, as no other player on the Tennessee roster had more than 500 receiving yards outside of WR Calvin Ridley. Boyd would be a bargain signing for the Steelers and would no doubt be looking to prove himself in his hometown.
