2027 5-star OT Cooper Hackett commits to Texas Tech

Texas Tech has landed another massive commitment in the trenches. On Saturday, Fort Gibson (Okla.) five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett pledged to the Red Raiders.

Hackett is the No. 11 overall prospect and No. 3 OT in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the top-ranked junior in Oklahoma.

Despite holding a slew of big-time offers from top programs, the 6-foot-7, 250-pound Sooner State standout is ready to lock in with the Big 12 program in Lubbock. Head coach Joey McGuire and his staff have been red-hot on the trail this summer and have now added a second five-star to their 2027 class. Earlier this month on Aug. 7, Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military five-star EDGE LaDamion Guyton, Rivals’ No. 1 overall prospect in the 2027 cycle, committed to TTU.

“Tech was the first school to start recruiting me and they were my second offer,” Hackett told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman earlier this month. “I got to go down this summer and stay for a couple days. They told me that I’m the best tackle in the class. They also treated me great while I was on campus and I got to eat with some of the staff.”

Texas Tech has clearly prioritized recruiting in the trenches. On the Fourth of July, the Red Raiders won out for Mansfield (Texas) Lake Ridge five-star OT Felix Ojo, the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2026 cycle. Despite not making his top four ahead of his decision, TTU pulled off the biggest shock of the cycle thus far — thanks in-part to a notable revenue-sharing deal.

Earlier this month, Rivals reported that Hackett is “believed to be commanding a higher NIL value than some of the top tackles in the 2026 class.” He’s already the fourth five-star prospect in 2027 to come off the board.

Hackett and Guyton are a monstrous duo and immediately place Texas Tech in position to sign a standout class next winter, as far away as that may be. Guyton has considered reclassification to the 2026 cycle, but for now, the Red Raiders have two five-stars to kick off their 2027 pledge list.

Scout’s Take on Cooper Hackett

Rivals’ Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power is high on Hackett as he gears up for his junior campaign in Oklahoma this fall:

“Cooper Hackett is a high-upside offensive tackle prospect, one who we identified early on as one of the top tackles initially in the 2027 cycle. You have to start with the frame and athleticism. He has great stature at 6-foot-6-plus, carries his weight really well and has room to continue getting bigger once he gets in Texas Tech’s strength program. He’s an outstanding athlete, has size as a two-way player, playing offensive tackle and defensive line. You can really see his movement skills playing on defense and he doubles as a high-level basketball player with some impressive plays on the hardwood.

He has building blocks and the foundation that you’re looking for in a top offensive tackle prospect — the outstanding athletic ability and with the frame and growth potential. I think he should be seen as a guy who’s more of a developmental-type right now, but he has a very high upside and that has him near the top of a strong tackle group early on in the 2027 cycle.”
