2024 Season Review

Jones had really impressive ball production last season. He finished the year coming away with two interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

Among all cornerbacks, Jones was tied for seventh in pass breakups, per PFF, and 11th in forced incompletions. This resulted in quarterbacks having a below-average passer rating of 85.8 when targeting him.

However, when Jones wasn’t getting his hands on the ball, opponents were still fairly efficient when going after him. He allowed a completion rate of 65% on 85 targets and gave up 13.2 yards per catch. Out of 73 eligible corners, Jones’ yards per catch allowed was the 16th-most.

Also of note, Jones’ nine penalties were the 12th-most among cornerbacks as well.

Overall, progress was made from Year 1 to Year 2, but there is still more growth needed.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season

Jones was sidelined during the latter portion of offseason programs with what was reported as a “soft tissue injury,” according to the Indy Star.

Jones is the likely favorite to start opposite of Charvarius Ward this season, but there will be competition for that playing time with JuJu Brents, Justin Walley, and potentially others.

“Just consistency of work, and that’s going to have to show throughout training camp, throughout the preseason games, to determine who’s going to get that job,” Anarumo said of the cornerback opening.

In this new defensive scheme, where coverages will be varied heavily, I also wouldn’t be surprised if some sort of rotation takes place there, depending on the in-game situation and what the game plan calls for based on the opponent.
