2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: OLB Josh Sweat

The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.

Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook.

Next up is Edge Josh Sweat.

Josh Sweat background, 2024 season

A fourth-round pick from Florida State by the Eagles in 2018, Sweat was signed as an unrestricted free agent on March 14 following a standout performance in the Super Bowl win over the Chiefs. During the 2024 regular season, he played 16 games with 15 starts and had 41 tackles (27 solo, nine for loss) and added 8.0 sacks and two passes defensed.

In three playoff games prior to the Super Bowl, Sweat totaled four tackles (one solo, one for loss) and no sacks. In the Super Bowl, he had 2.5 sacks, three quarterback hits and six tackles (two solo, two for loss).

Josh Sweat 2025 contract details, cap hit

That production in the Super Bowl catapulted him to a four-year contract (plus one void year) worth $76.4 million with $38 million fully guaranteed, including a signing bonus of $18.5 million. His 2025 base salary is a guaranteed $2.5 million and Sweat’s salary-cap charge is $7.3 million.

2025 questions, roster outlook

The expectations are through the roof for Sweat to be a major contributor to the Cardinals’ pass rush. He has had some knee issues in his seven-year career, so the question is whether he can achieve consistency from game-to-game and down-to down. He has had only one double-digit sack season with 11.0 in 2022.
