2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: CB Max Melton

The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.

Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook.

Next up is cornerback Max Melton.

Max Melton background, 2024 season

Melton came to the Cardinals as a second-round pick in 2024 and played all 17 games with three starts. He played 565 defensive snaps (52 percent) as well as 212 (49 percent) on special teams.

On defense, he totaled 45 tackles (31 solo, two for loss) to go with five passes defensed and one forced fumble. Melton tied for second on the team with seven special-teams tackles (six solo).

In the second year of his rookie four-year contract, Melton will be paid a guaranteed base salary $1.199 million while carrying a salary-cap charge of $2.02 million.

2025 questions, roster outlook

The expectation is that Melton will make a big jump from Year 1 to Year 2. The question is whether it will be good enough for him to crack a starting group with competition between Garrett Williams, Star Thomas V and rookie Will Johnson.
