12-Time NBA All-Star named as possible free agent target for Knicks

In light of Guerschon Yabusele signing just below the mid-level exception, the New York Knicks have some financial wiggle room as free agency winds down. Armed with one open roster spot and the ability to offer the veteran’s minimum, they can make a final addition to the supporting cast ahead of the 2026 campaign.

With the majority of last year’s roster coming back, the Knicks’ rotation is filled out for the most part. That said, there are still some roles that can be filled. Also, looking at other contenders across the league, having as much depth as possible is essential.

While breaking down free agency for the New York Post, Stefan Bondy tossed out a handful of names the Knicks could target with their final roster spot. Among those mentioned was 12-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul.

To be clear, I haven’t heard anything substantial about Paul landing with the Knicks. Every report suggests he wants to stay near his family on the West Coast. Still, I can’t resist the idea of Paul reuniting with Bridges from their Phoenix run and his former agent, Leon Rose, while finishing his Hall of Fame career at MSG.

Probably won’t happen, but it makes for a fun conversation.

Based on all the reporting around Paul, him signing with New York is unlikely. However, it’s something still worth mentioning. Fresh off reaching the conference finals, the Knicks could help Paul secure the NBA title that has eluded him throughout his career.

Paul, 40, is still capable of providing a boost to whatever team he’s on. Last season for the San Antonio Spurs, he averaged 8.8 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 7.4 APG.

Being a starter isn’t in the cards with the Knicks, but Paul could still serve a major role as Jalen Brunson’s backup. Still one of the best floor generals in the league, he can make sure the offense doesn’t go stagnant when the star guard is off the floor.

With no clear backup point guard option on the roster, pursuing Paul is a move that does make sense for the Knicks.
