NYCFC have given themselves a boost in the Eastern Conference playoff spots with a comfortable win over the new-look Toronto FC to kick off the MLS weekend.
Scorers: Wolf 20′, Ilenič 49′, O’Toole 74′ ; Romero (OG) 70′
Inconsistency has plagued NYCFC this season, but they got just the start they were looking for in search of their second win in three MLS games.
Talismanic forward Hannes Wolf opened the scoring for the home side with a peach of a volley in off the post.

While Toronto did create a few chances of their own to pull level, any chance of a turnaround was killed early in the second-half thanks to a scrappy Mitja Ilenič to double NYCFC’s lead, and ultimately ensure all three points went to the hosts, despite the two teams trading a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes.

The win sees Pascal Jansen’s side break back into the top-six in the Eastern Conference after sitting on the bubble for the playoff spots.
